Cockroaches are thought to have been in the UK for around 200 years. They are gregarious and nocturnal creatures who need warm conditions to thrive. A pest in their own right domestically but much more of a concern commercially due to the spread of disease, they can usually be found in the highest numbers in the warmer areas of a property. By day they seek harbourage in cracks and crevices and always require thorough treatment to achieve full control. Often associated with the spread of numerous diseases such as dysentery, gastroenteritis and typhoid, the cockroaches diet includes food for human consumption. This can be easily contaminated by the transfer of infection from the insect’s body or transmission in their faeces.

Have you found a cockroach in your property or business? Seeing a cockroach can be a very distressing situation knowing exposure to these insects causes significant health risks. Cockroaches are known carriers of many diseases such as Dysentery, Salmonella and Gastroenteritis. Along with these diseases, a link has been found between cockroach droppings and the increase in asthma and eczema.

Do you have a Cockroach Problem?

It is much easier to spot the signs of a cockroach problem than seeing cockroaches themselves, due to a nocturnal activity pattern they lay dormant until the evening to feed. Favourite foods include paper, packaging, fabrics and animal matter.

Have you noticed a strong unpleasant odour under sink and fridges or in cupboards? This could be a sign of Cockroaches along with these below.

– Unusual smell is the first sign of a problem with an odour that taints items they come into contact with
– Cockroach droppings are approx 2mm in a cylindrical shape
– Smear marks appear where they scuttle along and can be found on wall-floor junctions and horizontal surfaces.
– Shed skins, a cockroach will shed its skin around 5-8 times as an adult, and this will be a sure sign of where they are hiding out.
