mouse problem?

how to solve a mouse problem?

Mice can cause costly damage to property, contamination of foodstuffs, and transference of disease. When they venture into your home or business, they bring diseases and parasites as they indiscriminately urinate wherever they go. Mouse activity can be determined with similar signs to rats. However, they can enter buildings through much smaller areas as they can squeeze their bodies through holes no bigger than the end of a pencil.

Mouse problems often occur when mice search for food and shelter in buildings where food is stored, such as kitchens and storerooms. Mice infestations need to be acted on swiftly as this can lead to other problems such as,

  • Property Damage to pipes, floorboards, doors and insulation as they shred for nesting.
  • Contaminate foodstuffs, as mice urinate, produce pathogens that can transmit diseases like Salmonellosis and Hantavirus.
  • Fire risk occurs in buildings or vehicles when gnawing and chewing electrical wires.
  • Damaged cables present a significant threat to safety.

signs of an mouse infestation

Do any of these sound familiar? Are we discovering a greasy mark on a wall? A noticeable ammonia-like smell? Finding small dark droppings or gnaw marks? If so, then you may well have mice on your property.

Mice are nocturnal, so discovering these signs may take some time, and they can stay hidden unnoticed for most of the day and only appear at night.

Please take a look at our checklist of signs of a mice infestation below.

  • Droppings are usually left in cupboards and on worktops overnight, and they can produce up to 80 per night between 3 to 8 mm in length.
  • Grease marks appear on walls, skirting boards and floors where they have brushed up against the surface. Check for smears on corners and around possible access holes.
  • Urine pillars are a build-up of body grease mixed with dirt and urine, creating
small mounds up to 4 cm high established in heavy infestations.
  • Scratching noises, mainly at night when they are most active, can be heard under floorboards in lofts and between walls.
  • Nests, check loft spaces for shredded materials, including cavity walls and behind fridges, inside cupboards and under cookers.
  • Footprints can be monitored by sprinkling flour in areas where you suspect a problem. Tracks are much easier to detect in dusty rooms such as outbuildings and garage spaces.
